Hi chaps, I need to take the head off to replace some valves as the engine is tapping. Ideally I'd like none of the valves to be open when I remove and install the head. I have read on here that you shouldn't turn the cams independently to just get the valves closed as they may clash, so I guess removing the cams is what I need to do?
I have found the thread which mentions the notches in the end of the cams but it like to know a little more. I havent been able to find any detail regarding the removal of them. It may be obvious when i do it but, I'd like to know exactly what I'm doing, after reading the trouble you can have with valve clashing.

Thanks

Pin the cams up, pop belt off, pull a pin out and hold pulley, undo centre bolt, remove pulley, repeat for other cam.

Remove inner timing cover, cam covers, vac pump, then slacken the cam ladder bolts gradually, iirc there is a sequence detailed in the haynes manual.

They will move a little bit, dont worry about that.
