Does the immobiliser cut the power to the fuel pump, or the 12V feed to the injectors/ignition or both ?

Injectors and ignition, but not the fuel pump.

So if I have a locked ECU, the fuel pump should run upon startup?

Yes I meant not hearing the fuel pump when switching the ignition on.

I don't know if it makes any difference but the engine involved is the XU10J4R engine (306 XSI 2.0 16V) it uses the Bosch motronic MP5.2 ecu.

The ECU seems to be completly dead, there's no spark, no fuel and no 12V feed to the fuel pump.

Have you checked the fuel cut-off switch and the multi-function relay. Dunno

Yes changed the double relay with another one and tested the fuel cut off switch (resistance between pins 0 ohm)

It does seem like the ECU isn't well, can you try another ECU on yours or perhaps yours on another car?

ECU was unlocked and in good working order.

However I found out that the connector of the crank sensor was switched with the connector of the speed sensor (both 3 pin connectors).

When the ECU does not find the crank sensor during startup (the ECU checks all sensors), the fuel pump is not activated because dual relay is not activated by the ECU Crazy Crazy

Yep, it's running fine now (engine is placed in a 205 Griffe)

I was suprised how easy these connectors can be switched actually,

they are the same 3 pin connectors and are in the same place in the cable loom
