I've tried spraying the catch mechanism with WD40 but it doesn't improve things very much.
Anyone got any BTDTs?

In the last couple of weeks the bonnet has become hard to close, as in it is difficult to get the catch to engage. The bonnet now needs a really good slam to close it, which wasn't previously the case. Having heard of people having bonnets flip up on them etc, I'm a bit wary and want to make sure that it doesn't happen, and nip the problem in the bud. I had this a while ago and sorted it by putting the bonnet release lever back after using it. It was just the cable sticking and not letting the catch go back to where it should be. Was fine after working it for a while. ________________________________________ the zombie apocalypse started long ago, only no-one realised most can talk and drive |

I have to do this with mine, I'm going to try a new cable, may even ditch it for the airo catch things when I get a carbon bonnet ________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

I had it happen to me in my first car, I'd had the rad and slam panel off and was a bit giddy to test drive it and forgot to refit the whole catch ________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

I had this on my old car. Whole catch was just filthy with crud from over the years. Took it off, soaked it in petrol for a few hours, gave it a scrub with a old toothbrush to get in all the s**tty bits then greased it up with some white grease. Good as new! |

I've had a bonnet come up on me and as said it's not fun, I now always try and pull the bonnet back up to make 100% sure it's latched properly. If it's tight it's probably not lined up quite right, undo the 2 torx bits holding it to the slam panel and move it slightly. If you rest the bonnet on the catch you should be able to see which way it needs to go and it'll be back nice and easy as it should be. ________________________________________ Ryan |
