Ok think the head gasket might be on its way out so before I mot the car I want to get everything right.
Question is, will it be easyer to remove the engine to do this plus fit new timing belt kit or just struggle over the car.

Exhaust mani and timing belt look a bas**rd to remove. I no it can be done I would rather not spend the whole time swearing.

support engine, take off top mount, undo ex mani nuts, leave mani in situ, remove timing covers, time crank and cams up. take belt off followed by all hoses, wiring, your easier taking inlet off too. finally whip cam covers off then crack and undo head bolts in correct sequence. fitting is reverse of removal but DONT let valves hit off anything or you will end up with a tapper

don't you have to remove the cams and carriers to get to the head bolts?

Hmmm

I'd think about having the engine out and doing the clutch / crank seals while I'm at it as I bet they are leaking ?

Also clutch cable - remove all the aircon and get a new rallye aux set up

Nice nice

Gives you a chance to clean cooling system as well Thumbs up

Good idea, plus anything else that may need replacing will be piece of cake, steering rack etc

It says time up camshafts, but its a good idea to put the pins in (6mm rod or drill bits if you don't mind stabbing/cutting yourself)

Indeed, when timing up the cams if you don't put the pins in the cams tend to 'spring' forwards or backwards which can be annoying.
