Hi

I am starting the install of the supercharger to my rallycross 205, it currently has a GTI 6 motor in it with a BE1 1.6Gti gearbox.

I have a GTI 6 speed box and am looking to go HB on the charger conversion with a new steel bottom end so hope to get 350 BHP + when completed so my question is what box to use?

I know it would be nice to have a sequential box in it but funds will not allow right now.

I was also looking at the 306 subframe i have from the donor engine and the drive shafts look much larger so was thinking would i be better making this sub frame fit my 205 so i get a wider track as i have a dimma kit on it?

Use the 205 subframe

Shot pined box seems to be good for high boost

Not sure on a rally cross car though

I'm only on low boost at the minute but have 0 issues with a 140k standard box and shafts currently still standard Valeo clutch as well. However I do need to sort a diff.... The power can pull the whole car sideways sometimes e.g booting it off a motorway slip road in second and 3rd it likes to pull you onto the motorway sooner than you want to lol

Hi

I have a tranx diff in the BE1 box currently but i know what you mean as my old MI16 engine had 252 bhp and it would spin in 2 + 3rd easy..

Looking forward to see what happens on HB but its getting some wide Avon slicks fitted to it

I thought I would have been fine with a standard clutch in my lowboost, but after 200 ish miles the brand new clutch was pretty dead??

That probably says more about how you drive than the quality of the clutch Whistle

you probably want something like a 4.4 or 4.9 Final drive and a 1.9 gti gearset, or a CR gearset.

forget the 6 speed unit, it wont be strong enough for your use and its far too tall.

Could you not use the 1.6 box and use the gti6 diff and shafts and hubs for the extra strength as I've seen the difference in thickness. Obviously adjust geometry to suit the positive camber the 306 hubs give when used on the 205.

Oooor, get a dog box.

He has a tran-x diff so why fit the 306 diff? 306 shafts would need to be shortened to fit and IMO be of very little benefit, I've seen hollow 306 shafts snap far more often than solid 205 shafts besides its the joints that go rather than the shaft itself normally.
Why fit 306 hubs then f**k about correcting the camber when you could just stick with the 205 ones?

To the op, I'd look at a standard 1900 box for slightly longer gearing or as welshpug says a 1900 with a 4.4 (mi16/s16) FD for shorter gearing or a 4.8 for shorter again. The 1900 box has nice evenly spaced gearing rather than the big jump between 1st and 2nd that the 1600 box suffers with.
Fitting the 306 subframe would be a lot of hassle and if done incorrectly could balls up the car completely.
I'd seriously get yourself over to the 205gtidrivers forum, most things have been done before with 205s so it's best to talk to the people who've done it rather than 306 owners that guess Razz

I didn't read that bit. I thought the thicker shafts should have been much stronger given there thickness but I guess not.

they aren't thicker, thinner if anything, given they are hollow...
