I have an idea for a small project, but before I start planning and ordering the parts needed I want to ask a couple of questions.
Would it be possible to rig something to allow me to take readings directly from sensors like the water temp/RPM sensor/speedo sensor while still having them connected to to their relevant gauges on the dash and working correctly?

Can anyone with Autodata or similar, like in the Sensor Testing thread post information about the following sensors:
Oil pressure gauge sender (the one that is located above the oil filter)
Oil temp sensor (located in/by the oil sump)
The ambient temp sensor (In the side mirror)

Yes, it's possible. You would just need to construct small looms which could go in-between the current loom plug and the sensor, with a spare plug in the middle to take your readings from. Yes

Great! Thanks.
And connecting to them in parallel won't affect the readings from them?
Also, any idea how to make this sort of loom?

http://www.dat-equipment.com.au/products/detail/1-automotive-electrical-test-equipment/flypage/8-te024-wire-piercing-probe.html?sef=hcfp

These are spring loaded and put a tiny pin hole in the wires which can be easily covered with heat shrink. Connect to a multimeter or oscilloscope for waveforms. Some need female-female wires to connect to them to a multimeter.

You can get a gunson multimeter lead kit off ebay for around £25.

Amazon do some wire piercing probes that work by tightenng a screw but they arnt cheap. If you find any at the right money please let me know! Hope this helps Thumbs up

I've started an Arduino project which will be a DIY version of something like this:
http://www.nengun.com/defi/link-meter-advance-zd
This will be going into the car, and a 20x4 alphanumeric LCD will replace the existing dashboard clock/temp display.
So I'm just wondering whether having another meter connected to existing sensors will affect their readings to the ECU or dashboard gauges or not.

I'm still stuck.
Are there any docs or Autodata information about the Oil temperature sensor in the sump and the oil pressure sender above the oil filter?
Something similar to this:

I can't seem to find anything about these two sensors, and I want to use the stock sensors to both save costs and prevent potential problems with fitting aftermarket VDO sensors with adapters.
