Newbie question I am afraid.
I noticed coolant dripping under the car yesterday so I stopped immediately and took a look.
I was hoping it was just the bottom rad hose and it is coming from that area. On closer inspection it is dripping directly off the bottom of the crank case around the bottom pulley. is this likely to be the water pump gasket. If so is it a reasonably easy fix. I am pretty handy with a spanner but unfamiliar with these engines.
If it is i will replace the pump and gasket. Where is the best place to get hold of one of these ?
Thanks in advance

If your going to change the pump. You mite aswell do the cambelt aswell.

The gaskets come with pumps when.brought.

Am I thinking in the right direction. This water leak is in the right place for the water pump ?
It seems to be dripping from behind the crank pulley.
Is this job do-able with engine in the car ? It all looks pretty tight in there.

There is not much roomThumbs down
It is doable with eng in.Thumbs up

Please read up on timing the belt correctly and about bottom pulleys slipping before you start thoughWink
Plenty of info on here to save yourself expensive head off repairs after timing up the belt wronglySmile

Thanks for the reply.
I have been reading al morning and feel pretty comfortable with it. Done a few cam belt changes before so know whats involved. Just not too familiar with this engine. Should I get the cheaper 136 tooth cam belt or the more expensive 137?
I think I might put an alloy crank pulley on at the same time and remove the air con.
Does any one know the part numbers for the idler/tensioner and belt I need.
I have been searching the site but no definitive answer

Most go for the 136 belt, as the tensioner is manual and metal, the 137 is auto and plastic.

The thing to watch with these is the clearance between valves and pistons, and also inlet valve to exhaust valve clearance.Thumbs up

It is an easy job to do with the engine in the car, there is plenty of room once you start getting into it.

But yes, I'd go for the 136 kit. However, if your engine is fitted with the 137 kit, you will need a separate part called a 'screw column' from Peugeot to be able to fit the kit. It's only a couple of quid, but you will need it. Sorry, but the part number eludes me right now...

no need to do that, just look at the type of tensioner it has.

Sure it isnt coming from the rear hose connection on the back of the block and running down the back of the block?
Cam belts on these engines are easy to do and the new pump will come with a paper gasket.

If you decide you don't wanna attempt it yourself I'll do you a good deal on replacing belt and pump Wink. I'm not to far away and am head mechanic at a pug/Citroen garage. Also have flywheel locking tools etc so doesn't matter if your crank pulley is fooked. Drop me a pm if your interested.

I have had a really good poke around the bottom rad hose and it is pretty dry. The water seems to be coming from higher up. TBH its time to change the belt anyway and I fancy doing a few other things at the same time. This weep has just sped up a job I intended to do in a while.
I am going to put on an alloy crank pulley and remove the broken air con.
I will bear the offer in mind for doing the work, thanks.

Only if you buy aftermarket. If you buy genuine, it comes with a metal gasket which is much better in my opinion. Yes

As Welshpug says, look at the tensioner on the engine already. If it's a metal one, silver in colour you have a 136 kit fitted. If it's plastic and black in colour then you have a 137 kit. Smile

Metal or plastic I still usually put a little sealant both sides of the gasket to be safe.

There really is no need to do this. No
