Well its not a full on project but more a tidy up and make it look a bit more presentable.

i dont know if any one will remember the old girl but i bought it a good year ago now and have used it in anger at a few uk tracks and had some great fun in it.

my thinking now is to make it look a bit better on the eye and sell it for someone else to have some fun with it.

Car as it started, a 1989 cherry red 1.9, it was once owned by a chap (jamie tonks) who had it fully race prepped ect and i did some engine work to it when it had a gti6 lump fitted, a little vague but it was then sold on and it popped the original gti6 lump, fast forward a year or two and i bought it as a fully track ready low boost supercharged 205 (did i mention it has a 1.6 gearbox!!), i basically put some cash his way and done a swop with a nice 306 gti.

now dont get me wrong the car goes like a rocket and handles like a dream but sweet jesus it looks a heap of s**t, everytime i turned up at a race event etc you had a few snide remarks and basically people just laughed, not so funny when the car is driving great and it keeping up with them oh and when it rains passing the odd bmw csl, that was funny.

I also browse ebay and see what pops up in the peugeot range and always have been on the look up for front end parts for this, after searching for many months i found a lower gti valence (in cherry red but it looks orange now) and a blue grill. fast forward to last wednesday and i get a second chance offer for a complete cherry red 205 automatic, basically put it means i have all the front end parts i require.

Well first thing this morning i set off to oxford to collect, i get there at 7am and it was still frosty, the owner tells me the cars history and how its been cherished etc (i darnt tell him my plans for it) and off back home i went.

so we have this-

Bog standard 205 auto, 76k miles and three owners

What a beast

and this-

Not to sure how many owners but I can imagine its been given death every time it's started.

Stripped down the super charged 205 and swopped over the bonnet, removed the front make shift grill and offered up the standard item, it drastically improves the looks, going to have to replace the intercooler with something either a little smaller or just a different size. Unsure whether I will be refitting the bonnet pins.

As you can see the headlights have also seen better days, the auto 205 I bought has an invoice for a replacement pair fitted just over two years ago so that's a result. Even better they are genuine items

Well I removed the lights from the supercharged unit and all the adjusters are seized and the holding brackets on the indicators are also damaged, managed to remove the ones from the donor, these must have been replaced at the same as the head lights as these are in great condition.

At this point I realised we had a little bit of tin worm action, I am going to completely strip the front and clean it up to see what's what, I feel a few repairs will be needed and some paintwork afterwardsSad

Why does every job turn into a money pit, I cant just forget it so its going to get sorted.

Well that's it for today, been quite productive really.

Carl

Thanks chap, I don't race it like that, that was the previous owner, I just go to the odd track day. It's a weapon that's for sure.

yeah, i nearly bought it too but being a travel junkie meant I turned it down for 3 months in the USA....but it came close.... good luck with it. And a word of advice, get the engine rebuilt somewhere they know what they are doing X

Just needs to be run in when rebuilt. I have built hundreds of engines. Always will be one that goes tits up its inevitable.

Cheers for the kiss Love

It already is a low boost gti6 lump mate, the issue is the intercooler and bonnet has been raised to house the engine, looks a bit in your face LOL

Just want it to go like the wind and not be in your face so to speak.

Just wondering how hard it would be to swap the roof over and rid the sun roof??? Unsure

the roof skin is relatively easyto do but laborious and boring with drilling the spot welds out though a complete roof with pillars is often the better way to do it especially if you cage the shell...

I was really tempted by this after knwing the car before the low boost and jud being tempted with a rallye I had but it was the week before I was trying to find work in OZ and NZ.....

I also hated the bonnet and intercooler but hell no one likes the gtir sunnys with similar looks but "by eck" do they go like stink!!!

Your welcome to the kiss, just dont take me up on the reach around!!

Stripped the front down and swopped over the bonnet with an auto bonnet I got from a cheap auto I bought off eBay, worked well as the front end from the auto I bought is very very clean and all the lights and adjusters look like new, was a bonus that's for sure.

Whilst stripping the front off the charged 205 it was a little crusty so I have not carried on fitting it up and am going to blast the front and put some metal into the areas where I feel it will be very thin.

Seems this is another little project I am putting on the back burner, mainly as I want someone else to weld it as I want a nice neat job, welding is not my first and best skill. Looks like the blue one may get started on again.
