They respond well to cam and ITB upgrades, far more than the gti6, but probably due to the fairly mild original cams and restricting inlet.
Specifically what fits safely and what works I couldn't say, you'd need to speak to someone with experience of the EW, Like Sandy Brown possibly.
Longman did a 206 190 conversion, essentially just bodies ecu and an exhaust manifold and a nice airbox took the 138 to 190, without the manifold they were Circa 185.
Torque specifically is a fair bit higher than the XU, 170 LBFT from that conversion above! 150 bhp from 3.5k up, more than the 180 and the XU10J4RS IIRC.
