Hi,
I’ve got a light rattling noise coming from the engine bay when driving, at approx. 3000 rpm.
The rattling noise is only there when driving, not if the car stands still (at idle or 3000 rpm)
If when driving, the revs go up or down 3000 rpm the noise disappears.
There’s no contact between exhaust and chassis.

Anybody got a clue?

Just a thought, but check whether or not it's the heatshield behind the engine that's rattling?

It doesnt matter how old or how many miles something has done things can go anytime, my cat did the same at 60k ish. I would say its most likely the cat is loose inside the casing somewhere, give it a few hits with the irish screwdriver and see if it rattles then, then you can rule that out or not.

The cat is probably on the end of it's lifespan, 190K miles is quite a lot (what is normal with a OE cat??)

There's also some sort of 'blowing' sound coming from the lower exhaust when shifting at higher revs and it's not because of a exhaust leak so I think is antoher reason the cat is on it's way out.

The blowing will be the fire ring gasket where the cat joins the down pipe. My one makes a zinging noise at 3800rpm. Must be a heat shield I think. Get the cats efficiency checked before plumping for a new one. Wink

Sure after testing it himself with a hammer, then no need to spend any money at all. My one that went was a cheapo replacemnt done before i purchaced the car, when taken off rattled by hand.
