i'm exploring all possibilities of engine management for my GTI6 turbo, today i spoke to Dastek just to see what they

had to say and i was told to keep my existing ecu, and go with a unichip to control bigger injectors and to alter the

ignition curve and to also control boost. The guy said there is no reason why it wouldnt work

It just seems a bit too easy to me to be true...anyone got any thoughts?

...does Vems not use Megasquirt software, or at least have some kind of connection with MS?

Better with standalone or see Wayne if you want to keep standard ecu but you can do more with standalone

aye standalones much better but this is a budget build and am not looking for huge figures. according

to what ive learnt, the standard ecu wont work with turbo as it wont realise positive inlet pressure

although, i managed to get in touch with a chap in brazil who had a xsara vts turbo running silly

power with a remapped magneti ecu and big injectors. i tried for 2 weeks to get in touch with wayne

but either he doesnt exist or he's too busy to take calls...

He's an absolute night mate to get hold of as you can imagine he gets pestered all the time with people that are not genuinely wanting his services and he is busy all the time!! He would charge £400-500 I'd imagine so maybe better just going omex route an get Dave to doing as not far to go or that

thats exactly what i'm thinking, Dave quoted me 400 to map omex or similar, Simon of Sitech racing

quoted me approx 250 and persuaded me to go for the newer versions of megasquirt as he has plenty

of experience with it. both of these people are 30 mins or so away from me, Sitech have lots of

previous with fords whereas SOS know 16v turbo'd pugs inside out

DTA preferably, but then again I'm biased and you did say it was a budget build. Is there such a thing as a turbo budget build? Dunno

can Dastek do sequential spark and injection?

VEMS is just megasquirt pro built with a bigger price tag, you can get a plug and play DTA omex etc if you want.

Wayne as far as I know is unavailable for mapping at the moment and might be moving premises afaik.

I think Jim was getting at the fact that your reply sounded a bit like a rehearsed line for a company spokesperson. Laugh
