Is this the earlier or later type Rich W flywheel as I understand on required a different starter motor?!

I'm not 100%, that looks like the later kind to me, however the design was only changed due to the flywheel ring gear being shredded, I believe the same starter is used on both types. Smile

If its a early one you just need a diesel starter motorThumbs up

What's the needs to change the starter motor?

The original ones were made slightly wrong,so the ring gear was too narrow,so the Gti6 starter was not engaging the ring gear properly and it would chew the ring gear upThumbs down
A diesel starter has a wider gear so engages the ring gear fullyThumbs up

The latest/revised flywheels work with the standard starterYes
