Afternoon guys .. wondering if anyone can advise .. my radiator coolent fan won't come on meaning my engine is at major risk of overheating when Idelling.

I had to put the car into a local garage because my handbrake cable snapped and noticed a couple of days before that the coolent fan wouldn't go off - so I asked the garage to have a look when they were sorting the hanbrake.

When I went to pick the car up they mechanic said that they had a look and that they now can't get the fan to go on at all. Dunno

TBH I was gona kick off with them and probably should have at the time as i would have expected to get the car back the same way I gave to them (with a working fan). But thought that they would probably do more damage so decided to leave it.

I now have the problem of trying to get this sorted.

I'm hoping the fact that the fan was working when I gave them it that they have just unplugged something and not connected it back properly - I've attached a picture of a 'few loose plugs' that i didn't notice before.

Anyone any ideas where to start with it? Thumbs up

ps. I hate garages Big grin

first of all unplug the brown [i think] sensor and see if the fans spin up at full speed

Sensors all look to be in the correct location.

loose plug is unused in the 6.

If you unplug the connector from the middle sensor in your picture the fans should kick in automatically (you will know as they come on at high speed) Thumbs up this will then prove whether the fans are actually working or not.

All good here thanks.

Other likely suspect is the Bitron unit which is under the passenger wheel arch. I had a broken wire in mine which caused the fan to come on constantly. Thumbs up

It's possible that maybe the garage fiddled with the Bitron unit and have accidentally left it unplugged.

great thanks for that Stan .... I've not had a chance to check the 'brown' plug that smtihers and rikky suggested from the picture ... is it an easy check re- birton unit? (is that under the passenger wheel arch?)

Yes, just behind the passenger wheel arch liner. The unit itself is held on with an 8mm nut, and has a long multiplug attached or it (or should have)...

As for disconnecting the brown plug as suggested, this should definitely be your first port of call. Yes
