Hi all, sorry to be posting a problem with my first post. I'm usually over on the 205 GTI Drivers forum but have just finished a GTI6 coversion into my 205 but it seems to have a slight misfire, I've posted this problem over on the 205 forum but had no replys and time is short as I'm doing a road rally tonight and want to try and sort it, right so on to the problem.

The car revs clean when resting and seems to revs out fine in first gear but after that it has a very slight misfire, not as bad to drop on to 3 cylinders and goes away and returns when giving it the beans but it's there although it also seems to clear before the rev limiter?? I've put a new set of plugs in it, and tried a second set of coils pack which were sold as good units but it's exactly the same. I know the engine was running on ITB's before I bought it so not sure if it's timed up slightly different?? And I'm running a lamda sensor which from what I've read could cause problems??
Any pointers would be very grateful although diagnosing on a forum is very tricky I know.

Thanks in advance
Jay

Tried unplugging the lambda and going for a drive? If it behaves better then there lies your problem Wink

Hi all, a quick update on what happend last night, had to nurse the car with misfire almost all night, around 10 miles from the end the misfire strangely disappeared and ran fine. Got back to the finish and parked the car up for around 1 1/2 hours and when I left for home the misfire returned and continued all the way home.

I thought when it cleared it was a slightly blocked injector which cleared it's self but now it's returned I dont think it's that.

It sounds like a dying coil pack to me, though I think I read on here somewhere that they tend to either give up completely or stay fine. Have you had the plugs out to see if one is sootier than the rest? At the very least this would indicate if it's a spark or fuel related misfire.

Thats what I'll do next, I'm going to fit a new uprated fuel pump first and see if that cures things and then the coil packs. What ever's wrong I'm covinced it's nothing major, just frastrating. I'll let you guy's know how I get on, in turn it may help someone else in the future.
