what thing inside the house? there's a rotating keyed rod which drives the gear and the ring around the speedo sensor. the only thing you could have done really is either not connected the plug back tight, damaged the wiring, or it's not sat making geared contact well enough but it'd probably make a bit of a bang or noise when you first ran the car. i'd pull VSS back out and reseat it and check the plug isn't filthy or broken wiring________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

you can just take the speed sensor out of the top by just removing the 1 bolt. you'll lose a little bit but not much, just top it up________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

There is a plastic gear inside the speedo housing which can fall out when the housing is removed. Sure it was in there ok when you fitted the housing back on?________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Have found its the plastic drive pinion, and luckily enough the local peugeot dealer had one left in stock which was only £5.22 so hopefully all goes well now |
