I have just recently replaced my clutch on my Rallye, now its all back together the speedo isnt working? do i have to replace the speedo sensor or anything aswel? its confusing me now lol any help would be appreciated Smile thanks

Did you put the plastic gear back in the speedo housing?
Put the plug back in on the speedo housing?

yeah put the plastic back into the housing and the plug back onto the speedo housing, someone said to me that your supposed to replace the plastic thing in the housing?? is this true as was unsure of this?

what thing inside the house? there's a rotating keyed rod which drives the gear and the ring around the speedo sensor. the only thing you could have done really is either not connected the plug back tight, damaged the wiring, or it's not sat making geared contact well enough but it'd probably make a bit of a bang or noise when you first ran the car. i'd pull VSS back out and reseat it and check the plug isn't filthy or broken wiring

okey dokey will have a look at that, do i need to drain the gearbox oil out again before i take the speedo housing off or is it ok as it is?

you can just take the speed sensor out of the top by just removing the 1 bolt. you'll lose a little bit but not much, just top it up

i have checked the plug and wiring which seems ok, still stumped on why it isnt working as was working fine before it came off? would it be anything inside? as dont want to have to drain the gearbox for no reason Smile

There is a plastic gear inside the speedo housing which can fall out when the housing is removed. Sure it was in there ok when you fitted the housing back on?

yeah the black gear thing inside seemed ok when it was all put back in, if i did need to replace this do you know what its called or the part number or where i can get it from? ive tried looking for one on the net but its been hard when not knowing what its called lol

after taking it off have now found out that the speedo drive pinion was broken so thats that sorted Smile thanks for all your advice Smile

Have found its the plastic drive pinion, and luckily enough the local peugeot dealer had one left in stock which was only £5.22 so hopefully all goes well now Smile

Did you put it in wrong way, that may of damaged it, i cant remember if it can be fitted wrong but just a thought

No it had a slight crack in it when it was removed but thought it could be ok but when it was put back in the crack got worse and broke

When you saw the crack, it would have been a good idea to get it replaced there and then as the crack was only going to get worse...
