Hi Guys

I have a problem where when i turn my lights on, my dials stop working and the lights eliminate but very dull.

Please see picture below

I have cut alot of the wiring out, the is a yellow wire that comes out the orange block which i think may be causign this,

Does anyone know what the yellow wire is for?

Thanks

No, but it sounds like you've lost the Earth for the lights and then when you turn them on, they try and use the Earth for the dials which kills the dials and the lights themselves only illuminate weakly as the Earth they are using is not one which is designated for them and therefore there is a high resistance present.

not sure exactly which you mean, a photo might help. however around that area there's the orange airbag wiring and slipring thing for indicators, but that's more steering column positioned. unless you mean relays under the dash, in which case i don't know without seeing your photo. i did all the wiring myself on my 306 and started again from basics but you do have to be careful as some things share earths and whatnot. i know mine was a p1 and i rewired everything from fogs to hazard switches and if you weren't careful you ended up with either smoke or nothing! i checked twice though and cut once..

some old photos from my old loom

http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=146856&page=last

forget exactly where each thing went, i'm guessing to fusebox though rather than an interlinked loom Unsure the other looms that would link into there would be for the central locking and electric windows at a guess. why do you ask about that wire anyway? has it been cut and you suspect it's the problem?

has it got a wire number?

i'd try rejoining it to an earth for a second and see if the dash changes at all but be careful. if nothing happens after like 2 seconds then disconnect it. fire = not cool
