Hi all recently fitted a replacement 6 engine in my 205 track car as I blew the bottom end on the old one. The new engine i bought has had approx 1500 miles on it after a full rebuild. The problem I have is it sounds like the cam nearest the bulkhead is making a noise at around 2k rpm, its as if there is something loose inside. Im told the engine is a good one and been built by a reputable company im told it was fine before fitted. Not driven it yet only started it up but left running for around 20 mins thought it might just be a noisey lifter or something but the noise doesn't change? Could anyone give me any ideas or if comment if they have had this issue? Thanks |

Is it only at 2000rpm or does it just appear to get louder/quieter around that speed? ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

No it's there at around 2k then it either goes or engine sound drowns it out. At first I thought it was heat shield or something but it all looks fine. |

Are you sure it's not coming from one of the injectors? Try a screwdriver stethoscope to see if you can better pinpoint where it's coming from on both the inlet and exhaust side. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

I would imagine it is a heatshield possibly, the small one which attaches to the exhaust cam cover. As 24seven says, use a screwdriver to further pinpoint where exactly it's coming from.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Is there definitely no noise at idle, apart from what should be there?________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Also check the vacuum pump as I've seen one or two of those make some nasty noises. You may need to take it for a drive to get the lifters to fill properly, I've read a few threads on here similar and experienced it myself where the lifters won't quieten down till its had a half decent run. ________________________________________ Ryan |

Mine is the same, I tighten it and it usually loosens itself a few thousand miles down the line! ________________________________________ Ex- Phase 3 China GTi-6 T-Reg |

Eliotrw - He says he has removed the heatshield to eliminate it and the noise is still there.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Fair enough, Might not be that easy then.Perhaps the main heatshield is falling slightly... ________________________________________ Ex- Phase 3 China GTi-6 T-Reg |

Right checked the vac pump thats tight, checked the plugs they are tight,no heatshields touching, nothing touching that shouldnt etc. Good call on the flange gasket i will get a replacement tomorrow ,i expect if its worn then the metal on metal sound could travel making it sound like rear of engine!! Ive noticed the noise only appears once the engine is upto temp...... |

Yeah that's exactly what i imagined as the noise sounds like its coming from the engine from sitting inside the car. But metal on metal will make it sound like that. Very easy to do also but when you take the flange off check the cross section up inside the manifold to make sure its not cracked or broken as that will also have the same effects. |

Check the cam pullies as the early three bolt fixing ones have been known to crack and cause a noise just before self destruction.Carl ________________________________________ C.G.Cars of Leicester, Peugeot/Citroen/Renault specialist Tel: 01162 624498/07799 405184 WWW.CGCARSLEICESTER.CO.UK36 narborough road south, Leicester LE3 2fn MOT station now open, tests £35 with a free retest. Thanks checked that also, everything looks fine apart from the vac pump when i put a screw driver to it and my ear,im sure the noise is from there! Does anyone do a blanking plate for it? Would the brakes be ok with just the manifold vac? thanks |

The vacuum pump is a common place for rattles, they have been failing for years. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
