I didn't know how to unlock an ECU, i was just taught that if you yank out the previous engines Immobiliser when it's running, the new 'unlocked' ECU won't lock up unless you plug the immobiliser in without recoding it.
Unless there is a way around this?

You'll need to throw money at the car. Not on parts. Just stand near your car and throw loose change at it, I find this increases performance for a short period of time

On Phase 1's it's done with removing the keypad, on Phase 2's and 3's it's achieved by disconnecting the ECU.

On ph2 and 3 I guess there's an immobiliser box which you pull out with the engine running?

I suppose the ECU could be electronically unlocked and the signal pin removed? so it can go straight into any othe 306? Unsure

i think with the engine running or on ignition position 2 you unplug the ECU and then remove the immobilier box thingy, which is under the dash - at a guess. only done it properly on a p1 with the keypad method. i did unlock my gti6 ecu using the remove on position 2 method but not yet tested it (it's for my 205 gti6 conversion)

The ECU I bought to go with the engine I put in my 309 was simply unplugged with the engine running as far as I know. Because it was going into a 309 without an immobiliser setup inside teh car I didn't have to do any more, but from what I gather if you don't remove the "chip reader" from by the ignition barrel on a P2/3 or remove the keypad from a P1, it will re-lock the ECU when you turn the key.

You only need the ignition and and not the car running, Much safer this way and always works

I know only the ignition needs to be on :p

but the original GTI-6 loom is buggered, so I can't do that either way Sad

It's certainly faster than a standard XSi anyway. on the old engine it would struggle to keep up with my 106 - apart from about 110 mph onwards.

Organising getting a loom and ECU for it Big grin

Doesn't a Saxo VTS have a longer 2nd gear than a 106 GTi?

Nope, that's a myth used by Saxo owners to make their VTS sound pure sik fast innit blud. Gear boxes are exactly the same ratios. It's the same story with the Furio and Quiksilver.

Paper figures are different because Citroen did tests with half tank of fuel and driver, and Peugeot did it with a full tank and one passenger. Thumbs up Also the Citroen is a s**tter spec Wink

Both cars are identical - I actually think the 106 is slightly heavier empty anyway but there's not much in it.

106 is nicer anyway, doesn't carry the same chav image as a saxo. Big grin
