Hi all.

My current intake pipe from airbox to TB is completely fooked, a friend of mine has the metal intake pipe (the ones they do on the bay) it's a 90o bend and the length is cut to suit.

My question is without restricting the car what size diameter would the piping need to be? For some reason 76mm sticks in my mind but i can't be sure.

Thanks Smile

correct. 76mm diameter. Have a look at ASH hoses and see if they do anything suitable. I bought a 90 degree bend from them and the straights on it were very long. Long enough to reach from the inlet to airbox.

Matt worth mentioning that if you are getting a metal pipe and not a silicone one that i have two silicone connecting pieces that go on the end you can have.

Bare in mind they are the same length as the ones on my pipe and technically arent quite long enough to make the pipe fit properly (on my car)

But if you cut the metal pipe that little bit longer, they will do the job no doubt. I just need some longer silicone hose to make mine fit properly

I would expect so you'd have to have a nose around ebay. This piping is about 3inches long i think, so to make my pipe fit i would need 5 inches or 6.

But you will prob be ok with my spare piping just dont cut the pipe too harshly

Also to bear in mind aluminium conducts heat far better than the OEM plastic intake. Unless you do something to insulate it from the enginebay heat you will get warmer air than if you just heft it alone. HTH

When you say f**ked. Is it just the pipe to the icv thats the issue? Has it broke cleanly?

I used a small filter breather on stepper motor and an 80mm gates rubber elbow on mine (universal tractor rad hose) worked a treat when I cut it down... Nice smooth airflow

Good point, I'd say no different to the heat soak that you get from the inlet mani though which disappears after setting off down the road. Also the rubber joiner would stop a lot if not all the heat from the inlet mani in to the ally piping. I've inspected it and can't feel any excess heat at all.

One major thing I've noticed is the throttle response is a million times better at any point in the rev range. I can also hear and feel that it sucks a greater volume of air. Not bad for less than £20 all in Smile

The ICV pipe had a big split where it joins to the inlet pipe and the inlet itself had massive cracks in it.

Yes I have a small breather for the ICV which sounds quite cool as you can hear it sucking the air through the filter. And it works better IMO as its getting air direct instead of using the original piping to get its airflow which is a far greater distance to travel.

Agreed with the better air flow comment though as its a consistent size from box to TB instead of the massive squash like on the OE one.

Hi mate, I've got some black 76mm diameter silicone hose offcuts left over from when I did my airbox to TB piping.

Have a look at the link below and let me know if you want anything.

By the way, this is how I did my inlet piping.

It's not that easy to tell but the silicone hoses on each end of the stainless tube are both 45 degree angled hoses.

In the second photo you can see the mini breather filter on my ICV feed. You need 19mm ID hose for the ICV.
