Random speedo fault it just dies but when it does the car seems to run crappy, then when it starts working again car runs fine? Vss unit would not cause it to run crap would it? All other gauges are working fine all the time. Have done a quick search but can't find anything covering both my problems.

Yes actually it can do but dependant on other engine health aspects, it can be more noticeable or not. The ecu still needs to know the road speed. I would suggest bunging in a new VSS, resetting the ecu and taking it for a long hard drive.

Dealer would probably be the best place to be honest. Is there any particular reason you want to stay away from them? I think a new VSS is only around £25 from Pug.

Stan has been drinking too much tea again LOL

part number 6160 70 is £52.

but there are dozens on ebay for £20 or less.

like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-806-2-0-HDI-99-SPEED-SENSOR-RPM-GAUGE-616070-/220633824012

I would avoid the cheaper ones unless you can confirm with the seller they are VDO, Valeo or Sagem.

LOL @ Welshpug!

Crikey, they have gone up! I remember about 6 years ago the last time I bought one it was about £22 from Pug.
