Hello fellas i am in the need of some advice on the above mentioned.

Now i remember seeing this on a few threads. My question is if there are really any benefits on welding the whole subframe. I know that this is common on 205 subframes when installing heavier engines.
Finally are the subframes on the 6 specific or are they the same across the whole engine ranges of the 306?

Any help, advice, experiences or pictures are as always welcome Thumbs up

Cheers
Marco

From what I've read and seen, it makes a tiny difference, but if you're building a race or serious track car then every little helps.

Until you've got a full weld-in cage, good coilovers, brakes, thicker ARBs and torsion bars I wouldn't bother.

I seem to remember as well that the '6 has a different subframe due to the heavier engine.

Put it this way, the btcc 306's have a seam welded subframe s I guess there must be some benefit to it. I've seen others weld tubes to the 'arms' on the subframe to stiffen them up. Can't honestly see that making a big difference but seam welding should.

I've seam welded another standard gti6 subframe. Pretty straightforward but quite time consuming to do. I found it difficult to clean the overlapped seams enough to weld them cleanly, but if you can acid dip them or something first, they should be easier to do.

Ok fellas thank you for the input so far Thumbs up
I am not planning on building a track weapon... not yet anyway... it was simply something i remember seeing on here and i wondered if it would have a noticeable effect on the stiffness.

Na, not nearly as much difference as top and bottom braces would make, for instance.

ask phill, I;m sure he tested the deflection of his welded subframe and wishbone brace.

Careful though, you might be mobbed by hot women if you've overheard having this conversation in public.
