hi guys after some info, I have fitted some excellent condition front seats, but I have now noticed they have no side airbag and was woundering how I go about turning the side airbag light off?

I don't want to take the bulb out of the dash. or am I going to have to buy ph3 seats to resolve this problem?

cheers mike

you can fit a resistor across the air bag resistor 8 or 9 ohms iirc, plenty of threads on this

The system will think there are side airbags connected and the light will go off.

Its the side airbag connection you have to put the resistor across.

if you look at Post #62 in my project thread
i managed to fix mine (i no longer have any airbags though)

Although being a Rallye i never had a passenger airbag, iirc the wires where my passenger airbag should be just had a plug in it

Was your airbag light going out okay before you removed the passenger airbag?

1.8 ohm resistor was what i used

if the airbag light was flashing before you changed anything... it could be a damaged wire elsewhere
have you looked through the FAQ iirc that was pretty helpful for me

i am not 100% sure what them yellow and red plugs is for

iirc its just two wires that went into the airbag? which it looks like you have already put a resistor between? Is that correct?

rename the thread by editing your top post
call it Airbag problems or something... more people will look

red one is for the side air bag. orange one which youve cut off and soldered is for the pre tensioner (which you could of connected up assuming your putting in ph1 gti seats)

well some progress - I have ow manged to sort the side airbag issue out.but the airbag light is still flashing. I think it the air bag behind the steering wheel at fault, would that use the same size resistor that I used for underneath the seats?

my other question is when I tilt the drivers seats to let people in the back the seat doesn't slide forward.would I be correct in thinking it the seat runners at fault?

any help would be grateful

if it was either of the dash airbags, it would be a solid light. If its flashing, its a pre tensioner issue. you either havent connected one or its a bad connection (most likely).

Also, check for change in the seat runners. that seems to be the biggest cause of them getting stuck!

yeah i redone the connections on the pre tensioners and it is still flashing that why i thought it could be something else. not sure weather to re do it again?

Niall- i have checked the seat runners for change, which is ok. nothing stuck in the runners.

Are you sure you got the wires round the correct way and the pre tensioners have never fired (can tell by the plastic casing round steel cable on the belt plug will be crushed up.)

yeah there the right way, because assuming am right it doesn't matter which way the wires go? as I have used a resistor.

they have never fired either .could the resistor be knackered? how could I check?

take the resistor off and measure it with a multimeter. Depending on how they are monitored and fired, it could be that it throws a small voltage in one direction to monitor and throws a bigger voltage in the other to fire. that would be the safest way to stop the chances of accidental activations.
