yes its doable, a bit fiddly but esily possible, crack it off and you can spin it undone the rest of the way with the fingers

dunno if the above is gti6 or not, but that's the switch anyway. its sunk into the box

had mine out last night on my be3 gti 1.6 box, used a 22mm deep socket to get it out

ive never noticed item 17 on the box before, looks like a removable cover to see the clutch or see the clutch fork if refitting eg, im sure mine doesnt have that

on the 6 box, you will need someone to stand on the clutch pedal or take the arm off to get to it. bit of a pig to do. chunky sockets wont fit in the recess.

that's a pic of a TU-BE4 box.

there's two types of switch too, depends on age of car/engine loom+gearbox, rp 8420 is the crossover, and they're dirt cheap.

i did it without removing the arm, i cant remember how but i can remember having to pick the tool i used very carefully to be able to get at it, once its cracked off though its a fingers job.

yeah i know you have to use a deep reach socket. Just depends how deep your sockets are doesnt it lol

im not sure what i used mate, i can remember struggling to get in with a socket, i MAY of used a ring spanner, one where the ring bit is stepped/angled away from the shank of the spanner.
i really cant remember but can remember searching the toolbox to find somthing that would work

I used a crowfoot spanner to take mine off if i recall.

I done it, what a pain in the arse it was! took the battery box out so i could actually get a spanner on the bloody thing
