Trying to score some brownie points with the inlaws and retain my place as number 1 son inlaw so any help would be great
Firstly it's not a 6, it's an R reg 1.4 (mother inlaws car)
They can be driving along just fine and it will just cut out, sometimes it will restart but cut out again, other times it won't restart for 15 mins or so.

Only seems to happen on short journeys
My old meridian did a similar thing which turned out to be a faulty crank sensor but we haw swapped the one on this for a known good one

Any ideas?

i think thats most likely to be an issue with the fuel pump relay or crank sensor.
The fact it wont start for 15 is a bit weird

When you say it only appears to happen on short journeys, would you say the car is up to running temp on these journeys, or are the journeys that short it doesn't get chance to?

The father inlaw says it seems to only happen when they are on the way home from shopping.
It's about 3 miles, park up for an hour then after about 5 mins it cuts out.
We thought I had solved it with the crank sensor as he went on a 50 mile drive after it was swapped and it was spot on

Tempertaure sensor I would hazard a guess at. My thinking on this is that every now and again the sensor will read the engine is up to temp, when in fact it's still warming up and supplies too little fuel.

Can you not borrow a code reader to see if it has any stored faults?

Can't borrow a reader as I don't know anybody with one.
But I have a lot of known good sensors from various pugs in the garage so may have to just swap and change a few

assuming its the same engine as the MPI 1.4 206, my missus one had a duff temp sensor. the eml came on for about 30 seconds after months (she only decides to tell me the car has been running s**t for months when the light comes on) and the car was using s**t loads of fuel. ECU just defaulted to -40 degrees!

green is the ecu temp (the one you want to replace). Blue is the one for the dials and brown is for the fan controller.

In order to win, you need the biggest difference betwwen +1's and -1's, in the +'s favour.

It's all very well for people to give you +1's but if people are also giving -1's it doesn't help you.

Which reminds me, -1 for openly trying to get others to make you MOTM...Whistle LOL
