Can I use a 205 radiator in my 306 S16? Will it straight in without needing the hoses modified/ changed? Also, will it be big enough?

I have throttle bodies, and I can't fit an airbox on them as the rad is in the way. But having received quotes for a shorter rad, I am seeing if there is a cheaper option...

you'll need to fit a remote header/expansion tank, also you may as well use the 1.8 td item, its much

...and the hoses are a push fit with jubilees rather than the stupid bayonet fittings

I wouldn't bother with an alloy header tank, just use a 205 one Big grin

you could use most of a BBM or Pugracing 205 gti6 hose kit.

I would make up a steel frame to mount the fan on and secure the rad, don't forget rubber buffers for the rad, that rad looks quite a bargain if its decent!

Bit of a bump here. Would the 205/GTi6 hose kit be everything needed to get the 205 rad to work with the 6 engine in a 306? By that i mean just hose wise, i know the header tank is needed.

No, But there could be either 2 ways, A new 306 type rad with a plain lower fitting with a new silicone hose or have a fitting fitted onto a rad, either way not that cheap

Get a rad,make brackets/get it to fit,make up hoses to fitWink

In my 309 I got rid of standard cowling,this allowed the rad to be mounted further forward and lower.
Pic below of the bracket my m8 made for me:



Gave me loads of room between rad and inletCool you can see I had a bracket made up for the top mounting on rad too,and had it welded to rad:



Would have been perfect for airflow to ITB's as you can see below:



Presume you would be cutting up your grill to allow direct airfeed?Dunno

Thanks those pics help alot I've pretty much decided on a 205 rad and like you say going to get a rad and make brackets etc and then pipe from there once I've got everything sorted. How does the header tank fit pipework wise

And yes cutting and making new panel to drop lower down to get everything out of the way of the throttle bodies

On the 309 the header tank had 3 connections,2 to the top of tank,and one on the bottom,top ones were: from the small bleed pipe on the rad,and another bleed point from the thermostat housing.

The bottom connection feeds into the pipe that goes from thermostat housing to the rear of water pump.

You can see the header tank top right of pic above on the bulkhead,radiator bleed pipe is visible on the top left of radThumbs up

On a road car i have to say I would not suggest fitting a 205 Radiator. In both my GTI6 engined 205's I used 205 radiators, nissens alloy items. It would run hot in traffic in no time and I was never really happy with it. In a heavier car I can only imagine it would be worse. If you're set on a 205 radiator at least use a diesel turbo item.

Also been looking into custom radiators would It be better with a remote header tank or one built into the rad like standard bearing in mind it would be a smaller but thicker rad?

Check the bbm facebook page, they can do custom rads and stew has one on his t16 306 track car project.
