Interesting...your symptoms don't point to a typical MAP sensor failure to be honest but hopefully a new one will cure it.

Like stan says it doesnt sound like map but nor to me does it sound like tps or coil pack? Coils are usualy working or not but sometimes intermitent, not in the way your experiencing the problem tho.________________________________________ cherry p1.....SOLD (regreting this)blaze p2.....why did i buy this SOLD Black p3 |

Coil packs usually break down when they are subjected to heat. Therefore, quite often it's common to see a car which starts and runs ok but when it gets up to temperature it starts to misfire etc.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

I've had this before in the past where the car started fine but once warm it ran on 3 cylinders and sounded like a scooby. Replaced the coil pack and its been fine ever since. As above they are subjected to very high temps. Even once the engine is switched off the temps go higher due to heat soak. They only need so much as a hair line crack and that will cause a miss fire. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Indeed but as the issue isn't solved all avenues should still be explored. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Also IMO opinion the car wouldn't run if the MAP sensor was fooked, I unplugged mine as i thought there was an issue with it and the engine died straight away.________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Yep, generally these engines won't idle at all if the MAP sensor is knackered. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

So then the black smoke would be fuel which then goes back to other things above that have already been mentioned. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

As I always advise anyone before changing sensors etc check the basics.Take your spark plugs out and check the condition, they should point you straight to the cylinder that has the problem and go from there. You describing it as a hog bike sounds like its down a cylinder and the lack of ability to rev sounds the same. It could be as simple as a dodgy spark plug but you won't know if you don't take them out. ________________________________________ Ryan |
