Is it a constant tap which get louder and quicker with the revs rising?

Or is it more of a light tap, which disappears after a couple of minutes of the engine running?

May have a couple of Valves bent if that is the case... It's not majorly hard to do but i'd recommend getting the head pressure tested once off.

Spark plugs being loose also give this effect.

I had a genuine bent valve tapper and it ran fine for 60k miles. So my advice would be to leave it. If it goes bang eventually I would just change the engine. I deffinatly would never pay to have it repaired again. Smile

Shenpar's (Melbourne) closer to you and are bang on, but buy a Xsara VTS for £400.00 and you can get a engine which is normally mint with low mile's, will save a fortune

Good advice, you'll normally find that the engine hasn't been ragged as much in a Xsara as it wouuld have been in a '6'.
