Ok I took the car out for a spin yesterday , the car was feeling a little strange so I was doing a few test.

Pressed the brakes HARD and found the car veering to the left. (back end coming round as if I'd applied the handbrake on any other car than a 306).

This tells me that braking force is not equal maybe front n/s caliper or rear o/s caliper appliying more force than the rest.

I did a track day last week and found that the o/s front caliper was seized a wee bit . I stripped in back cleaned out some dust from the yolk and everything was fine. If this was the issue i would have thought that the car would pull to the right under heavy braking?

Any ideas gents what could cause uneven braking?

MOT next week, they measure braking force on that?

EDIT - my ABS has never worked but doesn't bother me

Naah, seized rh caliper, veers to the left as its not working, if it binds it would pull to the right when not braking.

Car does pull to the right slightly when driving in straight line , always assumed tracking was out.

Time to strip and rebuild front calipers with new seals and cylinder you think?

Yes it'll be a fail, you'll need to get it sorted.

Any ideas how to sort this, other than stripping down calipers?

Not necessarily new, but when my rears failed the MOT I just bought a known working pair off someone on here. Probably looking around £60 for a pair of fronts, could be cheaper and easier than rebuilding them yourself.

And hell, if it gets you though an MOT...

Freindly mot man passed the car but told me not go anywhere till i get it sorted.

So rebuild kit on the way.

I have removed the piston from the caliper in preparation of the kit arriving. I would have thought there would be something visible on the piston to show what was making it sieze??

This may be a stupid question but just to put my mind at ease, is there any way the rear compensator valve could affect the front brake? My thoughts would be no but you never know.

I've never heard of it happening, even if it's seized it won't affect the overall brake pressure.

Thank f**k. I was working on the back end replacing a beam mount just before it started binding(i think, don't know when it started for sure) and wasn't sure if i damaged it or something. Loads of possible causes run through my head when something is F**ked

Time will tell when i get the caliper rebuilt I suppose, probably rebuild it and it'll still bind knowing my luck. Car is p***ing me off at the moment.

In process of rebuilding caliper.

Question - Install dust seal to caliper 1st? or install to piston 1st ? Seen mixed advice from searching 205 drivers and watching some youtube

Wouldn't have though it matters to be honest, as long as it goes on and you don't damage it.

Use some brake fluid as lube if you need to Yes

I put the dust seal on the piston and slid it back in to the caliper but couldn't get dust seal to seat into caliper.

Gonna pop it back out with a mates compressor tomorrow and try it the other way.

Seated dust seal in caliper then used compressor to pressurise seal over the piston .Pushed in piston. Job done.
