hey.

I popped my p/s driveshaft out when removing a really stubborn ball joint.
it didnt come right out, but did empty oil over the floor No

got the shaft back in, but there's a 5mm gap between the shaft housing and the transmission box. I assume its gotta sit right up against it?
Put a jubilee clip on the shaft housing to give it a tap, as I dont like hitting the shaft or boots, but it still wont go any further. Also lowered the car back down on the wheels to see if it would go in. no luck.

I dont wanna stick new transmission oil back in to have it run back out.

Any ideas? heres a photo so you can see what i mean....

cool bud, thanks heaps Thumbs up So the shaft housing doesnt have to sit right up against the rubber seal on the box?

also, dunno if any else uses clips on the shaft housing to knock them in, but it worked really well last weekend on my mates Prelude Vti-R. The guy who did it before for him smashed the insides of the shafts to bit by ramming them in like an anry ape Devil

lol!

no, the seal seals on the shaft not the shoulder, as long as the shaft butts up against the diff it'll be fine.

Happy days Smile
Off to Peugeot tomorrow for new ball joint pinch bolts as one of mine is not in a good way.

Any idea of the part number for the gearbox drain plug compress copper washer? (service box doesnt have it)

Had to put the old washer back on when i did the engine oil as my housemate threw out the new ones, makes me fell kinda s**tty for putting old ones on...

Peugeot only sell the washer with a new drain plug as per the photo below, but any M16 copper washer will be fine.

nope mate, not a chance. It's not like the UK. Unless you have a Holden or a Ford, you're screwed.

Found a guy breaking a 97 XT. Had 16mm joints and mine has 18mm, but the bolt is the same, so drove 50 kms there and 50kms back. The guy laughed at me...

Managed to get some BV 75-80 transmission oil, happy about that Smile

You know just a long m10 bolt would have done. Make sure the non-threaded part is into where the ball joint is, then chop off any extra thread!

Did you put a new driveshaft oil seal in before filling the gearbox up?

nope, I'll see how it goes. If it leaks - guess ill do it, but I wasn't planning on changing the oil.

Getting seals same day out here is hard.

With regard to the M10 bolt. No you can't. Grading and tensile strength for one, the ratio of shank to bolt length is different to standard bolts and the shank thickness is normally the o/d of the thread, however these are thicker Tired

yup, hence the suggestion to use a longer bolt and cut the excess off.

Yeah ok, so I could cut it off. Fair play Smile

The shank thickness is different. I had an M10 bolt here and used the calipers to measure it. There was a fair difference. I'll find them in the garage tomorrow and put the details up, that's the reason coupled with wanting the right grade that I didnt use one.

my p/s driveshaft is the same as that, its always made me wonder if its normal or if the p/s hub and wheel was like 5mm further out than it should be but apparently it is normal.
