Yo

Im getting some knocking noises from my front strut. I've stuck a video on mediafire as I cant find anywhere else to upload it ( only photos on here yeah?) if anyone can point me in the right direction as to what is actually causing it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?6gxi630t166gg6u

Think I'll fit a strut brace when I get round to it too Smile

Thanks guys!

I can't view the video at the moment due to not being at a PC, however, things to look for would be to jack the car up and check the top strut mount for play/loose bolts. Also, check the condition of the droplink fixings and the lower ball joint for excessive play. Yes

Whilst you're under there poking around have a look at the coil spring itself and make sure it hasn't snapped or starting to fail anywhere. Smile

This is another good possibility, especially if the noise appears on acceleration/deceleration. Yes

yeah, its not the engine mounts, quite sure of that. Happens most noticeably when just rolling over a tight left hand negative camber on the way home from work. Just as geometry of suspension goes back to normal then to the left it pops like in the vid.

I'll grab some new bearings and brace and see how i go.

Recently done the ball joints and lower control arm bushes, the drop links were fine and the coil is definitely fine. So I guess its leaves little but the top bearing.

Thanks againSmile Gotta get the 6 back on the twisties and upset some aussies in V8s Big grin

Has been getting progressively worse.

Based on that then, I would almost put money on it being the top mount bearings. Yes

Stan,

Thanks for the advice mate. Spot on. Superman

replaced the drop links as a matter of course. one plastic and one metal Confused

Handles so so much better now. Got some new tyres coming and a new sterring column from T400 Pug to finish it off.

metal was early type, superseded by later stronger plastic type.

This is most likely a cracked top mount cradle unfortunately. Sad
