I need the rear of the subframe dropped due the welder needing to get under it to fix the cross-members behind the front arches.

The Haynes manual says the steering rack, arms and the gear linkage (IIRC) need to be disconnected and most of the bolts need to be undone.

If so, would it be simpler and better to just remove it entirely and get it replaced at the same time (after fixing cross-members) by the people doing the welding with my nice new/cleaned up subframe + mounts, wishbones, VTS rack etc?

The subframe and mounts on the car are nasty rusty stuff I'm getting rid of.

I'm asking as I want to plan the job to avoid duplication, extra labour charges etc.

Thanks.

I agree, remove the lot, get all the welding work and then the painting/protecting the new steel, then rebuild using all your nice new bits you have.

Definitely. Have the whole thing off, clean up the brackets (one of mine snapped during removal), get the subframe shot blasted and powder coated, Xsara rack on, new ram gaitors, whole lot.

It's such a b**ch of a job whether you half do it or fully do it, might as well do it right Yes

Another vote for removing the whole subframe. Yes

It's not a particularly hard job, and if you can get it blasted and powdercoated as Owain suggests then it will look nice and be better protected from the elements too. Smile
