Whats everyone been up to with the lovely weather we have had this weekend?

I will start, saturday I did a sponsored bike ride (20/20 cancer charity)from Leicester to Skegness (90 miles), decided to do it as I always seem to be at work etc and very rarely give my time to others for causes like this so thought f**k it and got on with it, I didn't do a great amount of training, I tried to go work and back most days but having cars and a motorbike around you can imagine what I ended up jumping in or on.

Started at 6am and got there for around 3pm, we went in a group of 20 of all different ages and some were very good riders and others struggled when we got on, we stopped a couple of times to get us all back together and the rest is history as they say.

My stead for the day

As we started, all fresh and bushy eyed.

Part way through at a stop appoximately halve way.

One stop off a rider grabbed a drink, I couldn't resist (don't worry it is a bird)

Once we got there a few miles later we got a drink bought for us by the mayor of Skegness LOL

Me and a few good mates, with our third pint in about an hour, we worked up a thirst.

All in all a very good day and we couldn't have asked for better weather, I even got a red head and tan lines on my arms and legs, it all went very well, a wasp decided to sting me right at the top of my legs and my mate got a puncture that was the worst that happened.

Other than the train ride home it was all done, now the train, not nice, must have been an old knacker as it was noisy hot and just old, we got back at around 830, just a bike ride to my garage now to collect the van.

If anyone hasn't done anything like this I would well recommend it, puts a lump in your throat when you see that you are helping some very unfortunate people and hopefully one day if you ever get into this unfortunate illness people may do the same for you.

The highlight of my day was seeing an ass and the mayor getting a round in, was about £100. All in all we raised about £2500.

Carl

Good effort, bet you were quite chuffed to complete it! Was it easier doing it as a big group? Mate has just done something similar darn sarf.

I've been to JHB and back today and sat on my arse for once! Tried to have a quiet weekend ahead of the final push at site!

To start with we was all in a group, as the day went on we all split up, when you get so far you just want to power on and get it done.

Today i fitted my new centre section, nearside strut top bearing and track rod end, then set the tracking.
All new bushes/joints are now on my daily driver and it feels an awful lot nicer to drive now. Smile

Only had one little incident, i was being lazy not taking the damper out to replace the bearing, just pulled the spring down with the compressors and undid the top nut, got the new bearing in and tried my best to line up the spring in the cup and get the bearing to seat in the top mount nicely, it wasnt quite perfect once the compressors were off so i stuck my hands up and grapped the spring pan pulling it back and forth, it snapped into position but in the process trapped two of my fingers. Doh
A lot of pain later i managed to drag my fingers out, got off lightly, no black nails but they are bloody sore. Laugh

Well done on the charity bike ride Carl. Thumbs up

My weekend also consisted of cycling, from SW London to Hove, around 95km.

Essentially it was a training ride for a duathlon I'n doing in 3 weekends time. Rode up and over Box Hill (raced up during the Olympic Cycling) via the very appropriately named 'Zigzag Road' and the pain of the ascent was definitely worth it when I neared the summit

From there it became very hilly as I made my way through places such as Faygate, Colgate, Warninglid, Wineham on towards Devil's Dyke. Spotted this amusing road sign LOL

I know the roads around the dyke are pretty steep and by that time, having ridden 50 odd miles, I knew it was going to be tough. This proved to be the case, the last drag (an ascent of around 400m) killed me, my legs couldn't actually pedal any longer, not even in the highest gear Doh bit gutted to have had to walk but jumped on again at the top and continued down towards the coast.

In total cycled around 95km in 3h45. Riding alone as opposed to in a peloton has a dramatic effect on your speed/energy levels. I found it so hard yesterday compared to a recent ride from Ramsgate to Tower Bridge which was ridden much faster but with 30+ riders.

The afternoon was spent at a festival in Brunswick Square then today big roast and lots of booze. Train back to Clapham then cycled from there back to mine. Pretty enjoyable weekend Cool Thumbs up

I felt like the saying all the gear no idea, starting to wonder whether to keep at it now?

You enjoy it then?

Yes it's such a cheap and easy way of commuting, plus helps you to keep fit. I also enjoy the freedom of being able to cycle out to wherever I fancy, enjoying fresh air, sunshine, amazing views. You soon rack up the miles too without realising. Maybe it's in my blood as my old man is still a very good cyclist (formerly a triathlete); he represented the UK at the World Championships in Canada some years ago and came 5th.

I intend to keep at it and try to get better/faster through training. When you're chugging up a climb and someone literally comes flying past you know you've got a long way to go Laugh

Jack sh** but I did go and see "Expendables 2" and "Bourne Legacy" Sunday eve with my Bro and a couple of mates. Both films were a good crack, Expendables 2 was cheesy as to be expected but was funny all the way through...

I want to work on the Railways especially on P-Way (Network Rail).
