Is it worth buying a second hand flywheel? Reason I ask is the dual mass flywheel has shat its pants on Alfa I've just bought.

They can be replaced with the older single mass type so just wondering if I should go and get myself a second hand one? Will save a few hundred quid and from what I understand the single mass ones don't go wrong do they? Dunno. Never heard of flywheel failures on 6/Rallyes...

6/Rallye flywheels are not dual mass, that's why you don't hear of failures. Smile

If you can do single mass without issue go for it, if its a common thing you might find kits reasonably priced, its £300 odd for an o.e ford kit for the 2.4 5 speed vans

Dual Mass Flywheels...I've never liked them, always seem to cause issues, as Welshy says, especially on Fords. Thumbs down

they do seem massively improved on the earlier few years they were used, but can still cause issues, mainly on abused vehicles and ones doing a lot of towing.

I know that's why I'm thinking I should be ok with a second hand single mass one shouldn't I?

I did the single mass conversion to my old Octavia tdi that had been remapped when the DMF tore itself apart.

Apart from a much lighter clutch pedal which was nice, there was a tiny bit more vibration through the bulkhead on tickover and i mean a tiny bit, nothing passangers would notice, so apart from that it was all good.
