The 6 is charged (low boost) car run's fine and doesn't seem to have any problems at all starting or running until you get to 4,000 and then you can here the engine over the exhaust.

to be the sounds like metal vibrating but can't seem to find anything that is lose, i haven't changed or done any work on the car recently so can't think what it could be.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have group N engine mounts so the engine shouldn't move that much.

hmm...thinking about it ive had this on a previous car actually....

in that case it was bearings in an idler pulley. silent until a certain point in the revs then sounded like all hell broke loose when you went past it. might be worth checking for roughness or play on the pulleys on the alternator belt

My money is on the headsheild that attaches to the engine by the cam cover for the exhaust cam and goes just above the exhaust manifold being either loose or having a snapped bolt missing.

To calify im not on about the bulk head one. its actually bolted to the engine

Yes, these are quite a common problem Lee, it will be the baffles in the centre box which will have become dislodged due to running the decat and the extra flow that is going through the box. Yes

Same thing happened to mine. Then I put the straight through centre section on and it blew the baffles out of the backbox instead due to increased flow. Yes

So now I have no more baffles and no more rattles. LOL
