Hello you lot :-)

My fan's stopped today on my Rallye and the engine's boiled up.

I've changed the temperature switch in the radiator for a new one.

Still no go.

I'm thinking it's the resistor pack. Which wires do I short to bypass it and is this even possible?

The purple relay in the centre of the fan housing seems okay.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

probably the relays or a corroded terminal in the multiplug.

unlikely to be the resistor, its pretty reliable being a sealed unit with no moving parts.

yeah I know what you mean>
I'm hoping it's not the fan motor.
the purple relay in the centre of the fan housing clicks although it was a bit corroded. I cleaned up the contacts and tried bridging the high current contacts in the multiplug but no go.
hhhhmmmm.....
getting dark now.

does the fan depend on the temp sensor on the engine near where the rad hose enters it above the gearbox?

Put 12V direct to the fan to eliminate the fan motor itself before diagnosing further would be my advice. Smile

sounds like you two are right. bugger. looks like the fan might be deaded.
anyone got one?
i take it the fan has two speeds and the purple relay in the centre box bypasses the resistor pack in the redundant fan space?
the fan housing was a bit twisted,c ausing a slight rub but i've sorted that one out.
i suppose it could have just made the fan run hot because of the drag perhaps.

How are you Stan?

i guess I need the bumper off to get to the back of the fan and connect it up.

naah, just pull the relay out and give it 12v by bridging the contacts.

I'm very well thanks mate, glad you've managed to diagnose the fault. I'm sure somebody will have a serviceable fan you can have cheap. Yes

Bit of a blast from the past mate, the last time I saw you was when we were all sitting on the grass outside the pub at one of the last Hertfordshire meets. LOL

I had a similar issue but it was the fan switch at fault. That said, my fan only works at one speed and it appeared that the high speed was coming.in before the low speed setting :S
