Hello all,
I have a Helix ceramic clutch and constant issues with clutch cables which simply cant stay alive more than several months and are simply get torn apart. Usually its the rubber stuff that gets torn.

The clutch was converted from upside down to regular clutch. it is rather hard and the material of the clutch cables are not strong enough, i guess.
Is there any place which sells stronger cables?
Cheers

Im sure i've seen hydraulic conversions done in the past, although i don't know much about it. From memory i think part of the gearbox housing needs to be machined to make space.

Surely it can be done without losing the brake servo, maybe a single pedal box or somthing.

Well, here some of the latest pics.
The clutch cable was ok, but the plastic crap was torn apart. So we machined aluminium parts instead of them.
We are going to machine the white plastic part which connects to the hook of the paddle also. Since now its the weakest link.

The clutch was always heavy, and i dont feel its harder now. Also, you dont have much room to play with it, you need to rev it a little bit more to shift - but this was always the case with my helix clutch (i have been using helix clutches for 5 years now). Most of my ex-gfs could not drive the car with this clutch - well, not more than around the parking lot (except my ex-Dutch gf, since dutch people cycle a lot and have strong legs). Smile

Haha.

Only reason I ask, is I will be running a twin plate clutch, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth while keeping the cable.

A friend had this same problem on a 106 only the other week, the cable would brake as the clutch took too much pressure to disengage. Alloy adaptors fixed this.

Birk, which brand is the intended twin plate?
You can try holding it up with an cable, and if it cant withstand the pressure, move to hydraulic - but its rather expensive.

would you have to lose the pedal box and brake servo to run hydraulic.

No, you could have a single hydraulic pedal just for the clutch easy enough.

yup, it is quite easy, not done it myself but Paul on the 205 forum has done a couple for V6 conversions, in a 205 and a 306 using mainly o.e pug bits.

You think a 406 hdi gearbox with hydraulic setup would fit the 6, with different gearset inside to make it a nice drive ?
