This is one job I would get a Peugeot dealership to do. Just incase of any timing issues and subsequent engine failiure requiring a rebuild. There are many garages who just don't have a clue about timing these cars correctly.

Yes there are a lot of garages that can't time the 6 engine for toffee.....including peugeot dealers.

they'll be able to get the VIN off a reg btw, if they say they can't they're slackers LOL

what info are they after? I don't think there's anything VIN specific, belt tension is belt tension, you shouldn't be re-tensioning an used belt especially on one of these engines.

and it's not even complicated! How would they do a cambelt change on a car which has vernier pulleys and no key in the crank pulley!?

well basically iv had a look at the timing the cams line up to there markers bt the crank pulley dont align up.. iv had a new cambelt and crank pulley (the old one the rubber had worn) and that bent valves previously. so needa take it to some1 who can check and adjust it properly.

pugs said they cant get the VIN number and cant do nothing til they get that...

just stick the crank pulley on and check the pins go in, wont take you long and no need to touch the belt.

how far out? if its a new pulley time it up close, slacken the cams and stick the pins in, then move the crank till the pin fits and tihhten the cams back up. easy and nowt to do with belt tension

yea sounds easy enough but id rather a pro do it dont want to rick bending valves etc. in the back of my mind im thinking what if new crank pulley is faulty etc... so would rather it all be checked... thats the issue i got. dint say nothing but tensioning. the belt is tight, its running fine, but maybe it could run better once aligned...

so really need a VIN number for pugs to check it out make sure pistons are tdc etc

Nothing surprises me with these, But with the amount of 406's, 306's with this engine type I have never seen the issue, A million good garages can do this
But just because it's Pug does not mean they have anyone there who knows about that engine, Staff turnover can be high and the car's old now so be warned
