hey there guys.... red a thread saying headgasket tips poke a bit towards cambelt... thought id check it out and the gasket has chewed the inner bit of cambelt up (was a new cambelt) so will be getting new belt and cutting the gasket tip off ... bt also thought id check timing. and from where the the markers are the pins dont align up out by few teeth... took it to a friend to get advise and he said it looks out but dont touch it if its running fine....

is he talking s**t? if i adjust belt to there markers theres no chance of bending anything is there?

because my friend said once when he done a gti gasket n cambelt the bottom crank pulley the rubber around it wore and the pin hole was miles out from where he should be so valves got bent... so i ordered cambelt and crank pulley today should get it tomorow...

need some advice please thanks

Sounds like it has a cheaper version of the metal head gasket, unsure why it has that tag, be very careful with the timing as if it has slipped a lower pulley you will be setting it out and cause considerable more damage than you want.

You can get a rough guide by removing the lower crank pulley, the woodruff key should be sat at 9 o'clock at the level of the engine, remember it is tilted slightly back. It may be wise to just get a new pulley or a known correct one.
