any ideas why unplugging it triggered the fans to come on?

Car is nice and cool until I get stuck in a traffic jam or dead slow town traffic, temp hits 90-95 C and fans kick in as they should but today they didn't kick in.. I pulled over and unplugged the brown plug and fan/fans kicked in.any ideas why unplugging it triggered the fans to come on? ________________________________________ Beef Beyond Belief |

that is a doosey :S when you pulled over and unplugged the brown plug was your engine still running and running over the desired tempreture?on the bright side of the problem your fans are working and you wont need a new one. it would suggest an electrical/wiring problem. first port of call would be check your relays. take em out shake em about. after that, wiring, look for burnt, crispy, nicked, clamped or squashed wires. ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

Engine was off when I pulled off the brown plug by the way. stayed on until I turned the key to the second point.it would then stop and stay off even when I have remove the key.________________________________________ Beef Beyond Belief |

The fans should come on if you pull the plug it's expected behaviour.Could be the coolant temp sensor. Green one. Did both fans come on web you unplugged the sensor. You should get a few seconds o slow speed then it will kick in fully |

its a failsafe thing, if the sensor goes down the fans come on flat out, likely to be a sticky relay, faulty brown sensor, or faulty bitron unit.green one wont affect the fans one bit, that's for the ecu. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
