Hi Guys

Just bought another Gti 6 to make into my track toy. Got it with a flat battery! Put a jump pack on it and it runs fine as soon as the jump packs removed it cuts out! also tried putting a new battery on thats not that great and it will rev but not tickover. would you say this is the alternator tried multi metre on the battery when i had it reved up and wasnt giving much out. Does this sound familier?

Cheers

Mark

I'd say you are right, it sounds very much like an alternator fault to me.

When the engine is running, you should see roughly 14.4v across the battery terminals when read with a multimeter. If you don't and it's down in the 12's then the alternator is not charging. Yes

You will need to remove the inlet manifold to remove it, so don't forget to buy a new gasket ready for refitting. Smile

I did my white 1 like that the last time i changed the alternator on it, its had 4 in 9 years due to sound system which is why i had 1 spare on the shelf, only reason i did it like that was i wanted to paint the slam panel

It's a matter of a couple of mm too big to squeeze through the top or bottom of the bay. Caught me out at around midnight one winters night a few years ago.
