Makes sense I guess.

Don't know if anyone on here owns anything old enough to make a difference, but they do make the valid point that if you own a fifty year old car it probably requires a fair bit of maintenance anyway.

Seems like a rare bit of common sense to me.

Yea and pre 1960 is pretty old tbh, we have a few classics in my household but they are all 60's built so dont fall into this.

Isnt pre 1960 pre any kind of suffix/prefix numberplates?

Yeah the black plates that don't have to be reflective, so you really are talking about an absolute minority of cars still running.

At least it's something, the tiny silver lining that after you've spent tens of thousands painstakingly restoring an ancient car from ruins, to drive it around uncomfortably at 20mph you at least don't have to pay for tax or an MoT.

LOL

Very true, and like you say a bit of common sense that to be honest is so rare these days why do they call it "common"? Unsure

I wonder if it would apply to the 1930's fords and such that have transformed into hotrods?

my mate has a 1934 ford coupe which is completely 100% concourse, not even dust on it. it's ridiculous. i'm sure he'll love not having to MOT it

Honestly though, it's true. Where is this "common" sense?

I don't see many people using such a device. LOL

I might just be synical, but seems like the first step to band pre 1960s cars on the road completely.

First its you can't MOT classic cars. Then you can't drive a car on the road without an MOT....

Not sure I quite agree with that, after all, pre-1973 cars don't have to pay road tax and yet they haven't been banned in all the years it has been free...No

I am baffled by this statement.

im in the classic car restoration trade, so frankly, its made my life a lot easier! but, with most things pre-60's from what we've seen they are owned by people with deep pockets and long fingers who pay crazy money to have their classic cars restored to new, so they sail through an mot either way.

when ever we take anything to be MOT'd they just look at it 'yup.. four wheels' done!' cheers!

i think its the governments attempt to throw the public a bone to show how people friendly they are and how 'hip' they are. because they know we are all suffering with petrol prices and insurance, but thank jebus i dont have to pay that £50 a year to have my granddads old humber MOT'd.... idiots...

Yeah it did seem like a bit of a weird one, it's not like it's a big issue that'll win votes or something the country really needs.

I bet you anything it's because lots of MPs own classic cars Yes

You know what, this so makes sense. Yes

MPs only vote on things which concern them and whilst doing so waste lots of the taxpayers money during the decision process by sitting in the Commons doing next to nothing...

Yup, that's pretty much it. I remember there's a bit of road near me that's national speed limit, out in the middle of the country. There are a handful of houses on it, and a couple of hundred yards of 30mph limit around them. Seems a bit weird halving your speed for the sake of a few yards, until you find out that a local councillor lives there Yes
