As there's no thread for fans on page 1 Whistle. (Yes I did a search).

Mine don't come on - disconnecting the brown sensor doesn't fire them up.

I'm hoping that the following is related: The rear windscreen wiper doesn't work and nor does the clock (replaced with known good). I've checked f34 and F40 and they appear to function - also checked 5 and 28 inside and they appear to be working. Am I barking up the wrong tree and these aren't related or does anyone else have a stick to help point the blind with. Electrics really aren't my strong point Sad.

i wouldnt have said they were related.

check the relays in the fan cowling.

if they appear to be fine check the fans themselves, put a 12v supply to them and see if they are seized or not. if they are replace, if not then its something to do with relays/wiring.

ive recently removed all my wiring to them and hard wired them to a switch because i couldnt trace the fault

Ahh well, I'll stop chasing my tail then. Cheers for preventing me from searching for an unknown related cause.

Got a known good set of fans from my trashed XSi so I'll see if they fit.

The rear wiper not working is usually down to the blue relay being broken. You will find this relay situated in the tailgate behind the interior trim, same place as the wiper motor sits.

Over time, water can get in there and short the relay out causing it to burn up and need replacing.

Regarding the fans, as said, check each fan by putting 12v directly to them. If they both fire up I would suspect the 'Bitron' unit has failed. This is situated under the passenger side wheel arch behind the wheel arch liner and is a common failure. Wink
