That's interesting Manthos...

I bought a brand new house on a new build estate in 2010 and it's located in a current ban area. Does this mean the ban doesn't apply to me? Dunno

You'll have to ask your local council asim not sure if the new regs came in after that. There is a new estate in gorlston where a friend lives and they have been told the ban doesn't apply to them. I can use my hose to wash my works car but not the 6 as im a registered business.

Ok, I'll have to ask the question then...

I don't recall getting a letter through the post stating we were *actually* banned, although I could have done as my memory is terrible these days. LOL

Will check it out and let you know my findings...Hmm

sounds good. The point is however. If there is a shortage then there is a shortage and we should all be in the same boat not if you pay more the more you use then you can use your hose but if you pay a fixed amount you have to use less and dont get a discount

I dOnt understand How we can be short on water when we're surrounded by seas and oceans, surely they could just use and clean that if it got bad

Exactly, we live on a Island they should just put some water purifiers out at sea. but that would mean spending the profit

Shouldn't we have it in writing that there is a ban? Whats from saying we just didn't know, I only know because I seen a very short clip on the local news once... and I'm sure that was a few months back!

This was my thoughts too, as I'm pretty sure we haven't received anything...Unsure

Suppose if you don't watch the news or listen to radio which I'm sure some people might not then you would never know.

True, but you shouldn't be notified by "word of mouth" or through the news.

The reason for that is, we are all on different water suppliers and only some have implemented a ban. So you should receive notification through the post so you know one way or the other whether your property comes under the ban or not.

For example, I fall under Anglian Water who have a ban in place (so I'm told) however 5 miles up the road the supplier is Cambridge Water and they don't have a ban. Crazy

I thought the same regarding how firm they could be about a ban when they don't directly inform anyone, apparently they only need to give notice of a ban in 2 newspapers circulated in the area and on their web site, they aren't required to inform each customer individually.

We could, but it costs absolutely billions to purify sea water, as you basically have to boil it all. It's far cheaper to just go easy for a bit until we have more fresh water Yes

As for the hose pipe bans I've never known anyone to receive notification, I think it's one of those things where it's just your responsibility to know.

Going on that basis then, if you got caught using your hose you could just plead ignorance and say you didn't receive any notifications through the post from your supplier and you haven't listened to/watched the news or read a paper recently. Dunno

Possibly, but I doubt it as the same could be said for countless rules. No-one's ever written to me telling me I'm not meant to murder people, but as a citizen it's my responsibility to know it's frowned upon.

Yeah some people are dicks, hear about a hosepipe ban on the news and don't realise they're not only regional, but can be sometimes down to your supplier.

Not only that, but you could have a water butt, they don't know. My dad got hold of one of these thousand litre jobbies off a friend of his, once that's filled from the gutters you could wash twenty cars without using a drop of water from the mains.

Almost worth getting that, rigging up a sprinkler in your driveway and dancing through it naked during a ban just waiting for someone to call some kind of Water Police to report you.

See that's exactly it.

Why do people frown upon others doing something which is perrfectly fine and legal, something that they themselves are entitled to do but choose not to? Dunno

Are we still talking about killing? Because you're aware that's not "perfectly fine and legal"?

Sounds like Stan's made a terrible mistake.

Not really, you've never been allowed to murder someone. You have however been allowed to your hose and then subsequently been banned from doing so, told only by "word of mouth" not officially.

For example, you washed the car with the hose at the end of last year before you put it away for the winter. Now you decide to get the car back out go for a drive and decide to give it a quick wash when you get back. It was perfectly acceptable to use the hose the last time you washed the car but not this time. Without "official" word what would the prosecution have against you?
