Don't call me a bodger but has anyone tried to refurb wheels using hammerite spray cans or radiator paint? My logic being that these paints are durable and also should be easy to apply as they wouldn't require lacquer. Obviously you wouldn't get a deep shine but I'm only after black or white to go on my Rallye. |

The whole of my cylinder head cam covers and inlet manifold etc are painted with silver radiator paint, been on there for over a year gives a very good finish and shine so don't see why it wouldn't work on wheels.________________________________________ Black power baby! My thoughts exactly. It's gloss without a need for lacquer, heat resistant and designed for use on metal. Seems like a logical choice... |

To be honest though I don't think rad paint is meant to be particularly durable, it's just made to not yellow under heat. I suspect it'd just chip off pretty easily. I've refurbed wheels before, and I'd honestly recommend just looking around for powder coating costs before you do. By the time you've bought filler, a few cans of primer, few cans of paint, lacquer, abrasives and put your own time in you can often just get them coated, which will make them good as new and last years longer. Normal paint is just not even close to the resistance of powder coating, you normally end up losing paint from the rim as soon as you have tyres put on if you do it yourself ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |
