I'm toying with idea of removing the head off the dead '6 and selling but as the HG was on its way out when I took the car off the road, how would I know if the head needs a skim or other work?

What kind of costs are involved and reading up on some threads, what's the deal with notches indicating how much can be taken off? |

It's roughly around the £50 mark for a head skim these days. There is a small notch at one end which has rough casting in it. There will be a "step" up from this onto the gasket face. Once this "step" disappears there is no more meat on the head to skim off. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

To see if the head has been skimmed previously measure its total height less the cam ladders, standard is 137mm +/- 0.05.minimum height is 136.8mm +/- 0.05. i.e 0.2mm. standard gasket is 1.2mm, Pug is the cheapest place for the standard MLS one, GSF only a few quid more for a Victor Reinz one, avoid ultraparts as they have the rivets on the end of the gasket which interferes with the timing belt tensioners. Locally to me the total work to the head is around the £100 inc vat, that is for a hot wash hot pressure test asd a skim, add an hours labour for valve stem seals, which are a tenner a pack from a motorfactor (same part as an audi and many volvo's) ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Thanks Welshy, to be honest it's not going back on my car, just looking to sell and then I can get rid of the block and gearbox and scrape what's left of the shell. |

It's worth getting it pressure tested too if it's been well overheated, although I've never known one to have issues. ________________________________________ Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 1Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 2 Lap of the 'ring |

I'm with Pete here, I've always had them pressure tested as a matter of course, however I've yet to come across one that's failed. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
