Hi,

We had our first full track day on sunday and the car performed well except for a couple of small issues.

After a few sessions of about 5 laps the cars idle bacame erratic, sometimes dropping low, going high after a low spot then back to normal, it didnt go so low it cut out all the time, most of the time if left it would sort itself out. Any ideas other than a new ICV?

Also when on track and the road we have a slight hesitation issue when going up the revs, it still accelerates fine up the range but has a couple of coughs on its way. We have put this down to the last owner installing PT80 cams and not remapping the car but could this be something else that we are missing? Its fine normal road driving but a couple of times ive felt it hesitate while cruising at a constant speed as well.

While i think of it as well, the car starts fine but sometimes turns over very very slowly once or twice, then fires up as you would expect, new battery needed do you think?

Thanks fro any help or advice in advance Smile

Alex

I doubt it'll be caused by the cams, they are pretty mild and mine runs fine on slightly longer duration PH2's.

I would check the coolant temp sender map and tps, also the lambda

Had this happen to me twice, exact same symptoms, came out of nowhere and became a constant issue.

Both times it turned out to be the map sensor,

Once the new one was installed it was back to normal, both of the cars were standard, but there is no reason why it couldn't be the same problem. Give all the sensors a clean with some carb cleaner. Failing that replace the MAP first as it is probably the cheapest and work your way through.

Good luck Thumbs up

I had similar issue a few months back with the hesitation and I also found it was the MAP sensor causing the problem.
However the idle was fine.

Try and clean the ICV and MAP with some wd40 first and see if it makes a difference Smile

cleaning tends not to do much for the map, just get a multimeter on it, same with the tps.

True, it did not help for me LOL

Just unplug the lambda and give it a spin, if the problem is gone, then it will be new lambda time Smile

It sounds like a dirty ICV in conjunction with a knackered lambda...Yes

Well this weekend i cracked out the tools and took the ICV out, gave it a good clean and put it back.

Took the MAP sensor out and took some pics so i know which one to get if we need a new one.

Unplugged the lambda to see if it cured the hesitation.

Car idled fine at standstill but tried to cut out and revs were up and down like a jack in a box after a short run.

Hesitation was still there on full load when going up the gears and also had a horrible julting at low revs/pulling away Sad

I plugged the lambda back in but didnt get a chance to go for another run.

Conclusion is a new ICV and MAP to start as it seems the lambda is ok as the problem stayed with it un plugged.

Ill let you all know how it goes after ive scaled the for sale threads for a MAP and ICV Smile

Just grab this. Its almost certainly your map sensor, and for that price you can hardly go wrong. Its very similar to the replacement i bought when mine went, it might actually be an identical part in fact.

Also here is a new Idle control valve for sale on ebay.

Neither of these parts are genuine.

Non gen MAP sensors tend to work perfectly however i have heard some bad reports about cheap ICV's so be aware.

Pebbles is correct, it's good advice to stay away from non O.E. ICV's. Yes

Kind of, i changed the ICV which felt like it had solved all my problems, but as i was putting it away in the garage last weekend it started hunting again.

Havent had time to look at it again to be honest. Ive now also got two MAP sensors for phase 2 or 3 as they dont fit the P1 we have Sad

It does indeed sound it could be a MAP issue now, once you get the correct part and bolt it on hopefully this will solve it. Yes
