Yeah like i. said if its not cooked and turned into a steam engine it will be fine

He said the stop light was on a good few times so chances are it got pretty hot.

I love it when people say how hot it got on the gauge when you had a water system problem, just because the sensor that has no water to read off says it's not that hot in reality you have no idea what temperature it got to.

Got to agree with Welshy here, not because I'm saying it won't work but why invest a good bit of time and money then skimp having the head tested and skimmed and Imo even though it would work I'm sure the longevity of the engine will be affected.

I'm also with welshpug and I've never heard of a head being removed and refitted without a skim!
Just do the job properly! Or don't bother at all,..

My next step would be looking into that one welshpug suggested and getting it picked up!
An engine swap isnt that hard if you have someone on hand that knows what there doing! If your trying to keep the costs down!

What I have seen on all the heads I've taken off recently is corrosion, they only need a minimal skim to restore a decent surface finish for an MLS gasket to work, but some are a little deeper and had to have a thicker gasket fitted.

s**t luck, if its been going a while then water will eventually find its way into the oil and wreck the bearings, also trying to turn it over with a cylinder full of incompressible water wont do the bearings much good.

I always do a proper service when doing a HG Thumbs up

why break? just spend the £400 odd to fix the HG and run it for years to come?

if there's other faults that's your own fault for neglecting it.

Agreed. Smile

Why not save it and enjoy it for some more years?

Bit harsh. I've got a crack in my windscreen, not exactly my fault. And an undiagnosed fault in the front O/S sus system, again not my fault. Bodywork is a bit tatty now and my rear wiper has broken off. Lots of other little things, looking at the thick end of £1000 really. At which point I might as well sell the good bits, scrap the rest, and spend the money on a new 6. Plus need a few consumables now too. I'd love to keep it, especially as I know it's been cared for in the past, and by myself, have a huge folder of receipts, etc.

I'm in no hurry to get rid though, it will sit on my drive for the time being while I work out what to do! If anyone wants a project car get in touch!
