So noticed a pool of red fluid under the car the other day and then opened the reservoir to find it on the min/near empty.

Was in Swindon when this happened but luckily i had a 1L bottle of PAS fluid on me in the car at the time. Some of you may remember me changing the fluid repeatedly and having Stu fit a new PAS pump as the fluid had been milky for some time which ended up knackering the pump.

Anyway, noticed the leak was dropping near the back of the block/under the subframe.

So managed to get it up on a lift today so could give it a proper nose to see where it was coming from.

Turns out its the RAM thats leaking through the seal.

I ripped the black bag a little some time back and i guess this has allowed grit to get in and damage the seal.

So how do i go about repairing this? Is it just a simple case of unbolting the RAM and bolting in a replacement??

Also discovered my cam carriers are still leaking oil down the back of the engine as there was fresh drops all over.

Rather annoying as i had them done/resealed about a year ago at Carl's. So seems this is going to need doing again!

It would explain why my car uses oil between its 10K miles intervals.

Anyway, new oil and filter today and cleaned the green cotton air filter too. So shes sweet again bar the leaky RAM and carriers...... Thumbs down

This doesn't really have much to do with your PAS issue, but I'm sure Peugeot say 0.5l is acceptable oil usage per 1,000 miles

Mine was doing the same last year just before i went to Nurburgring, i was concerned about putting fluid on track so got a second hand one from another member for £25 and bolted it on. job done.

Job took about an hour , it was a little fiddly unscrewing the flare nut things but not too bad.

Just replace the RAM shouldn't be much from a scrappy. I wouldn't worry about it though, mines been leeking since i bought it nearly 3 years ago, i just top it up. However i will be doing away with the PAS when i do the cambelt.

I last checked the PAS reservoir level around 2 weeks ago. And in that time till now it was nearly empty....does yours leak at the same kinda rate? Isnt it an MOT fail? (just found out my MOT expires 18th May - fooking great eh)

Obviously its not a problem keeping ontop of the level. I just dont want it to get any worse and p**s all out over the floor someplace.

It might be an issue when at the MOT station if they notice a small pool of red s**t growing or the makeshift dust cover i put on which quickly got a pool of fluid growing in it!

2 small issues it seems.....just annoying rather than anything

Oh also i have noticed a humming sound when i reach 65mph +

Realised this is probably the PAS pump itself as since i topped up the fluid it hasnt made the sound

The engine oil dripping on to the mani could be seen as a potential fire hazard resulting in an MOT failure Thumbs up

Bump - does anyone know if the GTi6 RAM is specific to the model or is it the same RAM as on other 306's? For example the 1.8 or XSI?

It is specific to the model mate as it limits travel more than on other 306's so that the n/s wheel doesn't rub on the end of the gearbox. Smile
