hi there peeps, i am in need of some help/advice as right after a good cleaning session today while i was cleaning the engine bay i discovered that the small pipe that leads off from the main air intake that joins to the throttle body had developed a massive split, and as i am not a mechanic, i don't have much knowledege and am now worried about running the car in this state.

can anybody tell me:

what the split pipe is for (what it's purpose is, and what it connects to)

is it safe to use the car as it is

if it can be repaired/how to resolve the problem

it might also be worth me noting that the pipes position seems to be the cause of the problem as it is very tight up against the throttle body frame work but looks like its not out of place. Dunno

sorry if this might only be a petty thing but i just want to get it sorted out as soon as possible

please see pictures for reference

Thx

Tom

It sounds like you are on about the pipe that goes to the idle control valve.

It's not something that would stop me driving the car, just try and tape it up as best as possible until you can find a replacement.

It will be allowing un filtered air into the intake and into the idle control valve which over time won't do things any good.

Edit: Just to confirm I've now seen the pic and you are on about the pipe I thought

Seems to be a common thing.

tape it up as best you can. Not a serious worry.

Some people detach them and put a litlle air filter on the pipe going to the icv.

Get a sharp serrated blade.
Cut two 1-2cm lines at opposite sides of the circular hole, on the main pipe.
Gte the small pipe. Force it thorugh the hole and the lines you have cut will allow it to pop through.
get some sealant. Seal hole. Let it dry.Job jobbed.

This is pretty much what I did with mine, although the sealant was an after thought Razz

Get a heat gun and melt the end plastic, hold it to the larger pipe and it will weld itself back into place, takes no more than a couple of minutes and you would never know.
