my head gasket went was using loads of water and missing so done my headgasket sent the head away had it skimed and pressure tested and new valve stem oil seals put in put it all back together now after its been on idle when you pull away or rev it, it blue smokes like nakered valve stem oil seals and if you drive it hard it will miss higher up the rev range then drop a cylinder like its fouling the plug any ideas thanks adam |

Valve stem oil seals...There are two types, one set for a 5mm valve stem and one set for a 6mm valve stem. I wonder if someone has put 6mm seals on 5mm stems? ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Could be worn valve guides too Did they check them? The head I had rebuilt needed 8 new exhaust valve guides, just through age/wear,not a snapper head ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

It's either the wrong seals have been fitted, or one seal hasn't seated properly and it's letting oil into the chamber. This would make more sense as you stated that sometimes the engine goes down onto 3 cylinders, indicating that 1 cylinder has a fouled plug. Best thing to do, is to go out for a drive and as soon as you come back whip the plugs out and have a check to see what colour they are. My guess is you will find one plug is all sooted up, and it will be that cylinder that has the valve stem seal issue. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

never heard of 5mm gti6 stem seals, do make sure XU10J4R ones haven't been fitted though, as they are incorrect.masses of audi and volvo engines use the same seal as a gti6. depends how long it had gone for, but you could have a knackered bore+rings from the steam washing effect the gasket was doing . ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

It does sound like rings, it's also worth checking the PCV system isn't blocked. My guess is the coolant getting into the bores has washed the oil off the cylinder walls (similar to bore wash where rich running / excessive fuel washes the oil from the cylinder walls), and has worn the rings and / or bores. ________________________________________ Contact Details:rich@lynxpowerengineering.co.uk 07732 822546 |
